100 up Final Sunday 27 April

Congratulations to Winner Finn Armstrong and runner up Chad Muir.

Below is a summary of the match written by Neil Hayes.

M.B.C. 100 UP SINGLES HANDICAP FINAL.

On Sunday 27/4/25 , commencing at 10.00am, the MBC 100 UP Club
Championship Final was played on a cool (15 degrees) and overcast day,
with little wind.  This was the last of MBC’s  8 Club Championship
events for the 2024/25 season. After many hard fought preliminary games
the 2 combatants for this Final were Chad Muir, the 10 time Men’s
Singles Club Champion, and Finn Armstrong, the Winner of both our Club
Novice and our President’s Handicap Club Championships this year, plus
was Winner in the Regional Novice.  Chad was on a handicap of 30,
whilst Finn’s was 15, so in line with the M.B.C. Bowls Committee
decision this year, Finn started the match on zero, while Chad started
on -15.

For information of our newer bowlers, 10 Points are available to win on
each end of play, with the bowl closest to the jack scoring 4 points,
2nd closest 3 points, next 2 points, & the 4th closest 1 point. This
means that it is possible to score 10 points on 1 end if your 4  bowls
are closer to the jack than any of your opponents bowls.  The Match is
won by the player who is first to reach the target of 100 Points.

GAME REPORT.
Finn won the toss & after 2 ends had scored 12 to 8 on longish ends. On
the 3rd end Chad won, & immediately took the mat up & bowled the jack
21/22 metres to the tee.
He then won 8 of the next 10 ends & at that stage Chad was leading 50/35
after working off his 15 handicap.
By end 15 Finn had narrowed the gap to 63/72, after both players had put
down many scintillating shots.
The ebb & flow of the game continued & after 20 ends the score was 93/92
in Finn’s favour. It obviously was anyone’s game & the hushed crowd of
around 40 members held their breath to see who would be able to reach
the magic ton & win the game.
On the last end it was Finn who had shots 1 & 2 closer to the jack &
with his last bowl Chad came in to try to save the game, connected with
Finn’s 2nd shot, but unfortunately for him it glanced sideways.
Therefore Finn had ultimately won a fantastic game 100/95.

President David Pumpa , who had acted as marker for the game then
presented the players with their prizes & commended them on their fine
play & sportsmanship displayed throughout the entire match.
All members in attendance then congratulated both Chad & Finn & thanked
them both for the opportunity of being able to witness such a great
game.

SUMMARY.
At the end of the game Chad had won 12 ends compared to Finn’s 10 ends,
when he had the closest bowl to the jack, but was marginally down with
the other 3 bowls. The additional 15 shot handicap also came into
effect, but what a performance from Finn who still qualifies as a novice
for the next 12 months.
